DEVELOPMENT HIGHLIGHT: A holistic way to usher in life after retirement

THE retirement complex, Riverside Place in Diep River, Cape Town, managed by the Cape Peninsula Organisation for the Aged (CPOA) was successfully completed in November last year.

The site drew such overwhelming attention and interest that the CPOA has began planning similar developments for the area. Billy Rauch, CEO of the CPOA, says the vision is to facilitate a modern-day retirement village by linking the complementary services offered by each of the complexes and making these available to all residents.

He says the retirement node development being created in Diep River is in itself attractive to potential buyers. The privately owned South African development company, Bellandia, has joined forces with the CPOA to undertake the new development of the Fernbridge Apartments dedicated to the active retiree’s lifestyle pursuits.

Featuring 68 stylish units, Fernbridge will boast a choice of quality finishes and full bathrooms, open- plan kitchens with granite counter tops and private balconies. The sizes of the units start from 60m² .

The ground floor units include large patios.

Retiree residents seeking activity will love the fitness centre , heated indoor swimming pool, and residents’ lounge and entertainment area . The complex has 24-hour manned access control, regular patrols, CCTV monitored entrances and secure underground plus visitors’ parking.

Rauch says: “One of the many advantages of the development is that residents will have access to the services offered by Riverside Place across the road, including medical services . The CPOA’s main aim is to create retirement options that interact with one another and the CPOA life right contracts could in future be traded between CPOA facilities, depending upon the changing needs of the owner.”

Riverside can also provide management support and take-away meals to the Fernbridge resident. The apartments look out to the striking Constantiaberg mountain range and are close to local amenities . They are also conveniently located near the Constantiaberg MediClinic and Newlands Sports Ground. Diep River is described as a leafy southern suburb of Cape Town neighbouring Plumstead and Bergvliet.

John White, marketing agent for Fernbridge Apartments, says: “Buyers appreciate the option to purchase now and rent the unit out until they require the use of it themselves in a few years’ time. One only has to consider the lengthy waiting lists at the Riverside developments and the enquiries into further development to realise that Fernbridge Apartments will be welcomed on the market.”
